Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Roberto Luongo & Willie Mitchell Start Summer, Lucic Thoughts on ex-Canucks Roberto Luongo and Willie Mitchell as the Florida Panthers are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and more musing on whether Milan Lucic will re-sign with the Los Angeles Kings.

Thanks Carol!!

It will be interesting to see what Lombardi does in the off season. I am wondering if Benning will wait until Lucic is signed before he dips into any other UFA's.

I'm curious to see if last night's game marks the beginning of Tavares' ascension to superstar ranks. And I'm super-impressed that Thomas Greiss held the fort for the Islanders while Jaroslav Halak is still out with injury.

I agree with you. Super-impressed.

micah disagrees. He thinks Griess is a bum.

Different perspectives I guess.

Erickson if in the right price range & term. Doubtful that's the case though. Also worried about his durability. We don't need another Sutter.

Remember the days when we all tried to create the All Douche Team? The canucks had a good historical foundation in cooke, burrows, and kesler. torres, lapierre were added to the mix later. A few shrewd trades and the canucks could of had four solid lines.

Radulov and Lucic would be a great start to v2.0
Come on JB, focus on getting Marchand! Oh baby.

4 concussions

I'm not sure he would want to come back to the more physical western conference.

Could you imagine Burrows and Marchand on the same team?

Want tough character guys for sure. To me, Lucic and Radulov don't fit the description. Bad for a room full of rookies. Would rather spend the money on guys like McGinn and Martin. Marchand would be fun to watch though.

Sutter hasn't had durability issues before this year.

I'm sure some could be had for very little. Don't think the twins would get much attention with that supporting cast.

Perceived lack of durability could be a reason he ends up signing for less than you'd expect. There's a possible silver lining for the Canucks if they were to pick him up. If he does end up injured, it provides an opportunity for a prospect to fill in and get some experience. However the call up wouldn't be under the impression they've made it to the show permanently. Better way to develop rookies without the sense of entitlement and lack of accountability you often see when young guys are given too much, too soon.

Developing young guys slowly and limiting success at the NHL level early on also puts a drag on bargaining position and salary expectations. Helps keep costs down once they are in their prime and ready to contribute to a team looking to be a contender.

Unless they were converted to penalty killers, they would take the opening faceoff each period and then not leave the bench again.

You are not accounting for suspensions. The twins and our prospects would get plenty of TOI.

Do suspended players still count towards the salary cap? It would be Slapshot-esque if they had to forfeit a few games because they couldn't ice a team.

Benning would be foolish to not at least kick the tires on Loui E. We need top 6 scoring badly. He should overpay in order to get a shorter term

Yes, worked out great. We made the playoffs and he scored 30goals. His play deteriorated and he is t our problem anymore

I'm torn. On the one hand I think that sucking for a couple of more years and drafting well is the best way to build a competitive team for years to come (tanking, in other words), but at the same time I don't want to cheer for a team that goes that route. Also, last year sucked and I don't want to watch that again.

Loui E would fit with this current group but at best, and with a healthy team and a couple of more solid moves, that makes us a playoff bubble team.

So you are against this idea? Any ideas how to address scoring and to use our considerable cap space?
